Summary and Suggestion
6.1.Purpose of practicum
The purpose of the practicum is to create and prepare
a good teacher in the future to teach in another country and taught how to be a
real teacher. From this program, the students exchange can improve their English
skills in teaching their students in the class or in doing communication with the other people. This program
can build new link and good relationship with the other people, like a new family in the other university and the other
country. The students exchange also be able to know and experience different culture in another country and also learn how to adapted with new environment and of course respect their culture and lifestyle. This program it's just like once in the lifetime experience for me, in very short of time I learn a lot of things, so I believe that everyone who's join this program is very lucky because they can gain new knowledge and new experience about teaching and education itself.
6.2. Procedures of practicum
When I conduct my teaching practicum, Mr Joven Valdez
which is my cooperating teacher was accompanied me. The procedure of practicum for one month of
internship program consist of a lot of activity in the Tarlac Agricultural
University, College of Education and Lab School of TAU. The procedures of practicum activities are:
- Orientation in the college of Education
- Class observation and Teaching Assist with the Cooperating Teacher
- Teaching Practice
- Teaching Evaluation
- Reflection
There are five outcome of the practicum:
- The teaching practice make me gain many knowledge and many experience specially about the best way how to teach the students.
- The teaching practice personally improve my English skills and my confidence level.
- The practical teacher can improve their English proficiency
- The practical teacher be able to experience new culture from the difference country.
- The Practical teacher gains more knowledge regarding to the teaching skill and Pedagogy.
The challenge for me when doing the practical teaching in TAU Laboratory school is time management and less facilities for the subject in the students' classroom. Mostly, I teach my students in the laboratory rather than in their classroom because the facilities in the Biology laboratory more complete rather than in the classroom, but the problem is I often wait for them to reach place and it takes around 10 minutes and that makes me have little bit problem with the time management.
The other challenge is language barrier, that is because
sometimes the students find the difficulties in understanding my English because there is different pronunciation
between Indonesia and Philippines in English. So, that I have to try very hard to make the students really understand what I'm talking about in the class. To overcome the language barrier I also try to adapted with the Philippines English pronunciation.
6.5. Overall impression
Overall, my impression on this project was amazing, because we can gain a lot of new experience and knowledge, find new friends and become a family with them, learn how to adapt with new environment and live in another country, during the program we also improve our English skills specially our speaking skills, learn how to build confidence when you have to deliver a speech in front of the other people, learn very well about how to be a good teacher and know what appropriate method or technique to teach the students. It’s a good project and I hope a lot of people interest and be able to join this program.
6.6. Suggestion
for future improvement
The suggestion for future improvement in SEA-Teacher is the host university
and the school should be earlier informed about the topic, curriculum, and subject to the students exchange so
the students will have a good preparation during the practicum and of course the lesson plan and teaching method will
be more improved.
